Ongoing Temporary Road Closure on Giantswood Lane

. . .

In June Cheshire East Council enacted an emergency road closure due to a sink hole appearing on Giantswood Lane. Investigation established that there was a water main running through the culvert which had caused it to collapse. United Utilities inspected the problem as long ago as July and early August work was scheduled once the number of affected residents had been assessed. However, the work has not yet been completed so works on repair of the culvert cannot be commenced by Cheshire East contractors. As you will all be aware, there have been numerous delays causing understandable frustration to residents as well as Cheshire East Highways and their contractors. This issue has been escalated both at Cheshire East and United Utilities and our Chairman and Councillors continue to apply pressure to those involved to resolve the situation as quickly as possible

Many of you, including everyone at the Parish Council, have asked whether temporary traffic lights could be employed rather than a full road closure. The local highways officer carried out an inspection and unfortunately it would be too hazardous to take this approach as there would be insufficient space to allow for a shuttle lane with temporary lights.

This might be of little comfort to everyone who is currently experiencing disruption at the moment but please be assured that the Parish Council is working hard to achieve the best possible outcome for residents and will do our best to keep you informed. The official temporary road closure notice is available below:
