Five contractors have now been selected to proceed to submit final tenders following an open OJEU tender short listing process which closed in August. The contractors are now preparing their final tender submissions for a design and build contract to construct the Link Road. The tenders are due to be returned on 26th January 2018. The returned tenders will inform a review of the scheme budget and a report to Cabinet in April 2018 which is scheduled to recommend acceptance of the winning tender and proceed to construct the scheme subject to approval of the final business case by the Department for Transport.
Following the Examination in summer into the Compulsory Purchase Orders required to construct the scheme, the Inspector’s report has been completed and is now with the Department for Transport (DfT) awaiting the Secretary of State’s final approval. The DfT have written to the Council stating that at this time they are unable to confirm the Orders pending some further queries they have raised on the Air Quality Evidence presented at the Inquiry. The Council is working to provide the DfT with further evidence to address their concerns.
The scheme remains on schedule for a commencement on site in late Summer 2018 and road opening in Summer 2020.
